Science, Politics and Law
Wednesday, 10-12, Seminar für Ethnologie, seminar room

Comment:
In this seminar we shall examine how the methods and strategies of argumentation in science, politics and law are distinguished and how these traditional types of human activities became established as separate social fields, each with its own codes, procedures and evidences. At the same time we shall investigate how these separate fields are entangled and constitute what is know as modern, liberal and democratic governance. Useful entry points will be those instances, where science becomes the object of litigation, or where laws are changed due to scientific discoveries. Furthermore we will have to look at those authors who were skeptical with reference to the applicability of science and scientific modes of thinking to politics and at their arguments.
