Abstract:
This study addresses subjectivities in narrative cinema and the visual elements utilized to construct it. The visibility or subjectivity of the characters in mainstream cinema has always relied on cinematic techniques. Given the history of character representations in mainstream cinema, this study relies on cinematic aesthetics and techniques and Edward Branigan’s theories of subjectivities to answer the following questions: How does twenty-first-century mainstream cinema construct and portray characters' subjectivities within the visual cinematic spaces? What is the role of the camera in framing these subjective images?
