Monthly seminar for doctoral students in the section "Text and Context"
during the winter semester 2007-2008. It will take place at the OWZ, Seminar room I., the last Saturday of every month (from 10:00 to 12:00 ). The seminar of two hours will be divided into two parts: in the first hour, the candidate will present an updated report of his PhD research. The second hour is dedicated to the general discussion.The importance of this seminar is to provide a discussion within our section. We will try to elaborate a common project around the center of interest of all of us, the textual analyze.

The transmission of prophetic traditions during the first three centuries of islam
Paper given at the Orient Institut of Beyrouth, Lebanon. Starting from the historical information we have about the generations of transmitters, Dr. Hilali showed the travel of the first generations and demonstrated the evolution of the institutions of learning in the some period and the link between the political power and the transmission of religious texts in early islam.

PhD seminar, section "Text and Context"
Ahmed Abdessalam presented his PhD "The legal norms and practices of the Arab Bedouins in the first half of the 20th in the Middle East (Jordan, Palestine, Sinai, Libyan Desert of Egypt and Cordovan in Sudan)". Two exterior participants accepted our invitation: Johannes Thon (Institut of biblical studies Halle) and Patrick Franke (Religionswissenschaftliches Institut Universität Leipzig). Some methodological problems were raised during the discussion like the possibility to consider Koran and hadith as historical sources and the definition of the customary law.
